Pottery Classes for Kids at Birch Grove Studios

HANDBUILDING CLASS FOR CHILDREN:

The basic methods of pinch pot construction,coiling, slab construction and sculpture will be taught. The children will enjoy manipulating the clay by pinching, squeezing, patting, and rolling with fingers and tools to create both functional and non-functional forms. They will modify the clay surface using found objects, tools, bits of clay and organic materials to create surface interest. After the first bisque firing, the children will decide whether or not to apply glazes to their pots for the final high fire. All clay and glazes are provided in this class. Finished work will be taken home by the children.

WHEEL THROWING FOR CHILDREN:

This children's class focuses on the basics of centering the clay, opening and making various forms by learning the basic throwing techniques. Students will practice to achieve a basic level of skill. Different forms will be studied along with some methods of decoration and glazing. Children really enjoy this challenge and, of course, the finished pieces will be taken home by the students!

Class Information:

Classes start in the middle of September 2006. There are two 5 week sessions before Christmas and three starting after New Years and ending in May. Instructor, Vickie Cole.

Wheel Throwing Pottery

Ages 7 and above, 1-1/2hour class per session

Limited to 5 students per class

Class times:

  • Saturday 2:30pm to 4pm
    &
  • Saturday 4:30pm to 6pm

The $95.00 fee includes:

  • 5 weeks of classes
  • One class per week
  • Gazes and firing of finished pots

Full payment of fees due at time of registration (unless other arrangements have been made).

CANCELLATION POLICY:

100% Refund until 5 days before class starts. No refund after that time.

Make-up classes can not be scheduled.
